artist statement

Art is play. It is the tension of a line, the composition or splash of color that creates a story and leads our eyes across a canvas to convey its own meaning to the viewer. I am inspired by nature and all that is the essence of who we are as humans, interacting in a world chock full of stunning beauty and devastation. After having children and shifting my world back to a more stationary existence, returning to visual art is rewarding and familiar. I am touched by all the emotions my children experience for the first time. I’m inspired by the forest, who listens well, but never feels the need to comment. Finishing a new piece is a journey from simple observation to appreciation through play. It is the process of growing beyond a self-propelled emotion to a universal space of appreciation worth sharing. I hope to remind you of the human experience, suspended in quiet, fleeting moments across a canvas. In those small moments, may we find our common humanity and feel relevant in this wild world.
